You know that feeling when you step outside, breathe in the fresh air, and just feel refreshed? Yes... me too. And i love it. What if you could bottle that feeling and bring it inside your home? I’m talking about nature-inspired at... those beautiful pieces that capture the essence of the outdoors and let you enjoy it every day, rain or shine.
I’ve always been drawn to nature. The way nature’s colors, shapes, and textures can transform a space. I love having plants, dried flowers and nature-inspired art right there in the room with you, reminding you to slow down and appreciate the simple things. So, how you can bring that magic indoors with art?
Why Natured Themed Art?
Nature themed art isn’t just about pretty pictures of trees or flowers. It’s about connection. When you surround yourself with art, images or sculptures inspired by nature, you tap into something deep and calming. It’s like your brain gets a mini-vacation without the hassle of packing or airport security lines.
Here’s why I think it’s so important:
Mood booster: Studies show that nature scenes can reduce stress and improve your mood. So, if your day’s been a dumpster fire, a landscape on your wall might just save you.
Timeless appeal: Nature never goes out of style. Whether it’s a minimalist leaf print or a beautoful blue floral cyanotype, these pieces age like fine wine.
Versatility: Nature-inspired art fits almost everywhere. Rustic cabin? Modern loft? Quirky apartment? Check, check, check.
Where do you start? Think about what parts of nature speak to you. Is it the ocean’s endless blues? The fiery colors of autumn leaves? The delicate intricacy of a butterfly’s wing? Your art selections should reflect the things you love.
Choose Art for Your Space
Picking art can feel overwhelming. You are putting time, effort and investment into something that will go into your home. You want it to look good and feel right. And let's face it, most of us are not interior designers... even I am not always confident when it comes to choosing investment pieces (or even non-investment pieces) for my home. Here’s my guide to help you nail it:
Consider your space: Do you have a big wall over the couch or a small area between two door ways that could use some art? If you have a big space, you could going bold with a large piece of art or a statement piece. Or something more muted and simpler. Small area? Try a series of bold, small prints that are
Match your vibe: If your home is calm and neutral, soft watercolors or sketches of nature would fit. For a pop of energy, vibrant acrylics, cyanotypes or mixed media can do the trick.
Think about texture: Nature isn’t flat, so why should art be? Look for pieces that add dimension and texture.
Mix and match: Don’t be afraid to combine different styles.
Personal connection: If you can, choose art that speaks to you... that reminds you of a special place, or that you get a physical reaction to when you see.
Tips for Displaying your Art
You've got your art... now what? Displaying it well can make all the difference between “meh” and “wow.”
Lighting is key: Natural light is ideal, but if that’s not an option, use soft, warm lighting to highlight your art without glare.
Create a focal point: Let your favorite piece take center stage. Arrange furniture and other decor to draw the eye there.
Group thoughtfully: When hanging multiple pieces, keep a consistent theme or color palette. It creates harmony and tells a story.
Use natural materials: Frames made of wood, stone, or metal complement nature-inspired art beautifully.
Don’t overcrowd: My favorite: Give your art room to breathe. Sometimes less really is more.
And here’s a little secret - plants and natural themed art are best friends. Pair your artwork with some greenery to amplify that outdoor vibe. Plus, it’s a sneaky way to improve air quality and your mood at the same time.
I Can’t Stop Loving Nature-Inspired Artwork
I’m a bit obsessed with creating nature-inspired art because I love nature so much. It always inspires me. Whether it reminds me of childhood adventures, or how I can relax when watching a sunset, or no matter how many times I see a tree, leaf or a flower, I just always feel inspired.
If you feel the same... go ahead - bring the outdoors inside. Your walls (and your soul) will thank you.
Best,
Jann
